About Anthony Makarov

Anthony Makarov is an associate and trial attorney at Gersowitz Libo & Korek, a preeminent personal injury and medical malpractice firm in New York and New Jersey that has recovered over $900 million in verdicts and settlements for injured victims.

GLK was founded in 1984 and by partners Edward Gersowitz and Andrew Libo, with Jeff Korek joining the firm as a partner and senior trial attorney in 1992. GLK has earned numerous accolades and is consistently ranked as one of the best law firms in the United States by US NEWS as recently as 2021.

Anthony Makarov was included on the inaugural edition of “Ones to Watch” by BEST LAWYERS in personal injury litigation and medical malpractice law for 2021. Mr. Makarov also earned a spot on the New York Law Journal’s: Top Verdicts and Settlements of 2019 for a verdict he achieved as the lead/solo trial attorney.

Outside the courtroom, Anthony Makarov and GLK are involved in local communities highlighted by its support for the Gardiner Foundation, a Bronx organization that provides mentorship and resources for local youth. Since 2009, GLK has sponsored annual basketball tournaments, college scholarships, school supplies, and Thanksgiving turkey giveaways that provide hot meals to hundreds of families through the Gardiner Foundation.

A Multicultural World

Anthony is also a Russian speaker who has provided legal support to the Russian speaking community since his first year of law school at Fordham Law where he interned in the New York Legal Assistance Group’s Elder Law Unit preparing advanced directives and supplemental needs trusts as well as fighting the HRA’s reduction of his elderly client’s, both English and Russian speaking, home care hours.

Proven track record

In law school, Anthony was a member of the International Law Journal and Criminal Defense Clinic and began interning at GLK during his second year of law school. After graduation, Anthony stayed with the firm and began his career fighting for injured victims. During his career, Anthony has participated in numerous settlements and verdicts in excess of 1 million dollars. Recently, Anthony was the lead/solo trial attorney where he won a jury verdict of $587,000 for an elderly woman in Queens who suffered broken ribs and clavicle in a car accident after proving that both drivers were at fault even though it was clear that one driver had a green while the other had a red. This verdict was featured in Verdict Search as a Featured Verdict as well as the New York Law Journal’s Top 100 Verdicts of 2019 — a truly astonishing result given the difficulty of the case.

Anthony is a proud member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association as well as the American Association of Justice, where he is involved in business interruption cases on a national level with Jeff Korek, who is the State Chair for New York and New Jersey.
